About Me

Hello!

My name is Nick Bullard, and I am a skier. I was born in Bennington, Vermont, and within the first few years of my life, my family moved north to South Starksboro, Vermont (approx. 10 miles from Mad River Glen /Sugarbush area). I spent my childhood, and early adolescence skiing both of these amazing ski areas, and developing a passion like no other for this incredible sport.

After high school, I completed two years of college before succumbing to the urge to just ski. Following this decision, I decided to throw caution to the wind, take a chance, and move to Utah with a good friend of mine. This decision would prove to be one of the most influential of my life. I soon found myself living in a small dorm room with three other guys in the little town of Alta. Over the next 5 years I skied some of the deepest snow of my life, accomplished a life long dream of landing several great sponsorships, and appearing in some well known ski publications. I also met my wonderful wife, and oh yeah, got a college degree at the University of Utah!

Since both my wife and I are from the east coast (yep you guessed it, she is from Virginia), we eventually could no longer resist the urge to move back to be closer to family, and start one of our own (our son Chase is now three and has been on skis several times already, as well as visited his parents old stomping grounds in Utah).

Moving to Virginia has been one of the most trying experiences of my life. Having skied an average of 80+ days a year, at one of the most recognized ski areas in the country, the move to central Virginia (Wintergreen now being my home mountain) has been an interesting transition to say the least. So, in June of 2010, I decided to start this blog as a way to stay connected to the ski industry, and keep alive a passion that has been so prevalent in my life. This year (’11/’12 ski season), I am excited to say that I will be embarking on a new ski adventure, I am hoping to help coach a youth freeride ski team at Wintergreen, something that should prove to be very rewarding on a number of levels… stay tuned for posts on how that all develops!

Basically, The Virginia Skier is all about sharing a love for skiing. Whether it’s personal stories, current ski news, or even where to find the best ski gear deals. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether your from Sugarbush, Vermont, Alta Utah, or Wintergreen, Virginia, once you’re a skier, you’re always a skier.

Besides, 7 times out of 10, the snow is softer here in Virginia anyway ;)

Cheers!

Nick
